Check out this amazing Phase Two makeover! Our clients had completed a landscape project with Knapp Valley Gardens in 2021 and were ready for their next phase. This time, they wanted a sweeping, landscaped boarder across the length of the backyard. The boarder was designed to:
- define the yard from the back woods,
- camouflage a bank of solar panels,
- add fresh color, style, beauty,
- and bring new life – literally, in the form of pollinators and wildlife – to the space.

Being perennial plant enthusiasts, the couple wanted a landscape that provided color throughout the season, against a backdrop of evergreens. The evergreens not only shade the plants on hot, sunny days but also add a vertical layer of interest between the lower plants and shrubs and the tall trees in the woods. The homeowners worked with the same Knapp Valley designer from 2021 to come up with a plan.
After the design was set, our Knapp Valley landscape crew started the job by cleaning up and mapping out the large footprint needed for the extensive design. They edged the garden with Curv-Rite aluminum landscape edging. And, they trucked in and distributed loads of soil to ensure proper plant growth and development.
Our designer also worked with the homeowners on selecting the wide array of plants needed for the job. The couple came to Knapp Valley’s Garden Center to see the plants in person and choose ones they liked best from our wide selection. The landscape features nearly two dozen varieties of perennials and flowering shrubs in differing heights from ground cover on up, and with different bloom times to keep color coming on all season. Additionally, there are seven types of ornamental, shade, and evergreen trees.
Stone was used to break up the landscape, add visual interest, and provide needed drainage. We used several types of stone, from Mexican beach pebbles to slate scape, washed rock, and limestone boulders to round out the project. Finally, we finished with movable Delano planter bowls from Crescent Garden bursting with annuals to bring color to the rocky areas.
Once again, our homeowners were thrilled with their results from Knapp Valley Gardens! After all the planning, work, and expense, the couple wanted to ensure their vision would bloom into reality. In addition to having the proper irrigation, they hired Knapp Valley’s landscape maintenance crew to care for and manage the new plot. Knapp Valley conducts bi-monthly visits for weeding, feeding, and pest control. Now, the happy homeowners have more time to sit back and enjoy their new view, rather than toiling away within it.
