Our clients were in the process of adding a new backyard deck to their home. They called on Knapp Valley Gardens to install a hardscape and walkway to enhance the setting and an add outdoor seating area. The homeowners wanted a backyard patio that would add both value and style to the property.
Tackling the Challenges
The spot for the patio was already cleared of grass, giving us a rough outline to start with. The yard was slightly sloped, so ensuring an even surface and addressing water flow were going to be the main challenges.
Proper thought and care had to be given so that rainwater would stream away from the garage and three season room. Grading had to be perfect. Painted markings illustrated where, and how far, the buried pipe would need be placed to carry water away from the home under the new patio. Lots of sand would have to be brought in to build up and even out the ground under the new patio.
Putting Their Stamp on the Style
Working with our clients through the proven Knapp Valley Design Process, our lead landscape architect on the job drew up plans for the new patio, plus a walkway leading to the back door of the house. The homeowners also wanted a bumpout for their grill as an added feature. Once the size and shape of the patio was set, together our client and designer chose materials for the job. They selected from a wide line of Unilock products, choosing Beacon Hill ‘Granite’ patio pavers with Hollandstone ‘Midnite’ bricks for the border.
Value Added, Backyard Enjoyed
Upon finishing the patio, our crew applied topsoil and seed to bring up the grass around the new pavers, which has flourished. The homeowners added their finishing touches with patio furniture, outdoor lanterns, and planters full of colorful blooms. This backyard retreat now gives the family a whole new outdoor entertainment space to enjoy while adding value and style to the home and property.
