Welcome back! Spring has sprung and we are very excited for the beautiful growing months ahead of us. To celebrate Arbor Day, which is coming up later this month on the 29th, our first post of the season will feature a step-by-step list on how to plant a tree. You may think this is a no-brainer, but there are some important steps to ensure the health of your tree. 1. The first and most important step is picking out your tree! We have a very good selection of trees in stock this year waiting to find a good home! Knapp Valley’s tree experts are available to help you pick out the best tree for your yard, while taking the amount of sunlight needed, the best soil conditions and the necessary maintenance into consideration. 2. Carefully remove the tree from the container or if it is balled and burlapped, you can either completely cut off the burlap or pull the burlap off the top half of the soil ball. 3. Examine the roots. If they are tightly compressed or “root bound”, you will need to break up the roots a bit with your fingers. If the roots are difficult to separate, you may wish to use a spade or shovel to loosen them up. ** Failure to do so may result in the tree dying, as the roots will often continue to grow in circles and will not allow for the tree to grow freely** 4.
